World Championships: PM Modi congratulates Neeraj Chopra on winning the silver medal, know what he said?

New Delhi. Neeraj Chopra may have missed out on winning the javelin throw gold medal in the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA. But, his silver medal also proved to be history maker. Neeraj became the first athlete from India to win a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in 39 years. Prior to him in 2003, Anju Bobby George won the bronze medal in the long jump event in the championship held in Paris. Neeraj achieved this medal by throwing 88.13 meters javelin. The gold medal was won by Grenada’s current world champion Anderson Peters. He threw 90.46 meters javelin.

The whole country is happy on this historic success of Neeraj Chopra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted and congratulated this athlete who won the gold medal of Tokyo Olympics. He wrote, “Great achievement by one of our most iconic athlete. Neeraj Congratulations to you for winning the historic silver medal in the world championship. This is a skinny moment for Indian sports. Wishing you all the best for future competitions.”

Neeraj Chopra ends 19-year drought, becomes second Indian to win a medal at the World Championships

Neeraj won the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics
Neeraj ended a drought of 120 years by winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year. Then he became the first Indian player to bring gold medal in track and field for India. In the qualifiers of the World Championship, Neeraj had already made it to the final by throwing 88.39 meters in the first throw.


But, his performance in the final was not like the qualifiers. He made two fouls in the final. He threw the javelin 88.13 meters in his fourth attempt and thanks to this throw, he managed to win the silver medal. Another Indian Rohit Yadav finished 10th in the Javelin Throw event. Rohit threw 78.72 meters javelin.
