UP CM Yogi Adityanath welcomes Chess Olympiad torch relay, played chess with Anand

New Delhi. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay-2022 on his arrival in Lucknow. A spokesman of the state government said on Sunday that the Chief Minister while welcoming the torch relay said that it is a matter of pride for all of us that India has got the opportunity to organize the 44th Chess Olympiad-2022. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has decided to organize the 44th Chess Olympiad tournament in India from 28 July to 10 August at Mahabalipuram, Chennai.

On this occasion, Grand Master Viswanathan Anand of India, a five-time world champion in chess in Lucknow, was also present. On this occasion, the Chief Minister along with Anand also did a ceremonial move on the chess board. Congratulating Anand on behalf of the people of the state, the Chief Minister said that nine cities of the state have been selected for the torch relay. India is hosting this prestigious international competition of chess for the first time.

It will be a matter of pride for India that we all are getting the opportunity to associate with this tradition, which has been born in India, whose tradition is five thousand years old. This honor is not only the honor of India, but also the honor of this glorious heritage of chess of our country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi started this torch relay in New Delhi on June 19. The Olympiad torch is going to 75 cities of the country in a span of 40 days. This torch relay has reached the state capital Lucknow on June 25, 2022 from Haridwar, Uttarakhand via Agra, Kanpur. The relay will pass through Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj on 27th June via Jhansi on 5th July. Players from more than 150 countries of the world are participating in this 14-day competition of Chess Olympiad.
