They killed Gandhi, will they spare me: Siddaramaiah

Bangalore : Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah questioned, “He killed Gandhi,” he asked. Will they spare me? Addressing people present at an event in Chikmagalur, Mr. Siddaramaiah said, “They killed Gandhi. Godse shot Gandhi. They worship his picture.

Taking cognizance of this, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that he met Mr. Siddaramaiah and assured him of adequate security and a thorough investigation into the matter. He also sought details of the threat call from Mr. Siddaramaiah for investigation. Mr Bommai said, “We are taking this issue seriously. We have spoken to the Director General of Police about this. Police will investigate it. We have directed to provide full security to the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly. No one should make such a statement which creates jealousy in the mind of others.

Mr Siddaramaiah expressed concern about his safety after eggs were thrown at his car and black flags were raised during his visit to Kodagu and Chikmagalur. Mr Bommai also held talks with Director General of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar and directed him to provide additional security to Siddaramaiah following the recent developments. The Chief Minister asked both the political parties not to take law into their own hands and refrain from making any provocative remarks.

Anger erupted at Mr Siddaramaiah when he questioned the installation of a picture of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar in a majority Muslim area. After his remarks, saffron and BJP workers started protesting. Eggs were thrown at Mr Siddaramaiah’s car and black flags were waved during his visit to Kodagu on Thursday. Meanwhile, Congress leaders and workers alleged the involvement of the state BJP government and Sangh Parivar organizations in throwing eggs at Mr. Siddaramaiah’s car and staged protests in different parts of the state.
