The board has taken this decision regarding the false, derogatory and distorted statement given by Ranatunga in a recent interview. The board has also sent a letter of demand to the former captain after the meeting. It is known that Sri Lanka won the ODI World Cup title for the first time in 1996. The team defeated Australia in the final. At that time the captain of the team was Ranatunga. Later he joined politics and also became a minister.

A statement issued by Sri Lanka Cricket said, “Arjuna Ranatunga has said many things with malicious intent and has damaged the reputation of SLC. He made public comments by making false and fabricated allegations against the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket. For this reason, the committee has demanded Rs 43 crore by sending a demand letter to Ranatunga. So far Ranatunga has not commented on this.
