Sanju Samson hit in IPL, but how to be fit in Team India! Opportunity getting in pieces since 7 years

New Delhi. A day earlier, the BCCI announced Team India for the 5 T20 home series against South Africa. In this, many players were rewarded for their good performance in IPL 2022, while many were sidelined despite strong performances in the league. This includes Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Rahul Tripathi and Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson. Both these players performed well in the 15th season of IPL. But, Team India’s ticket could not be cut. Rahul’s talk sometime again. Today let’s talk about Sanju Samson. Under the captaincy of Sanju, Rajasthan Royals made a memorable performance in IPL 2022. The team finished the league stage with second place.

Along with the captaincy, Sanju Samson’s bat also spoke fiercely. He scored 374 runs in 14 innings. During this, he also scored 2 half-centuries. His strike rate was also close to 150. But, this also proved insufficient to get him a place in Team India. Whereas, seeing his stellar performance during the IPL, legends like Sunil Gavaskar were repeatedly seen saying that Samson must be in the team of the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia. Far from the team of the T20 World Cup, Samson did not even get a chance for a bilateral series.

Samson has scored 174 runs in 13 T20Is
If you look at Samson’s T20 and ODI records, then it is not very good. He has played 13 T20s so far. He has scored 174 runs at an average of 14.50. At the same time, in the only ODI, this wicket-keeper batsman
46 runs scored. It has been 9 years since Samson played IPL. He came into the limelight by playing strong innings for Rajasthan Royals in the debut season of the league in 2013 itself. Since then, he has been consistently performing well in domestic cricket and IPL. But they are getting opportunities in Team India in pieces.

Sanju was first selected in Team India in 2014.
Sanju was first selected in the squad for India’s tour of England in 2014. Then he got a place in the ODI and T20 team. Then Sanju’s age was 19 years. But, he did not get a chance to play on this tour. The next year in 2015, Samson made his T20 debut for India. Then the Indian team went on a tour of Zimbabwe. Samson scored 19 runs in his debut match. But, after this he got a chance to play the second T20 for India in 2020. That is, after waiting for a full 5 years. After this, played a series against Sri Lanka in 2020 and then dropped from the team. That is, Samson continued to be in and out of Team India.

Fans are disappointed with Sanju Samson not being given a chance in Team India for the T20 series against South Africa. (Twitter)

Samson gets chances in pieces
2020 was important in terms of Samson’s international cricket. Because this year he got a chance to play maximum 6 T20s for India. But he failed to leave his mark. He scored 64 runs in 6 matches. This year, Samson was first selected for the three T20 series against Sri Lanka in January 2020. But the opportunity to play was found only in the third and last T20.

Say the pressure of performance or the haste to prove himself, Samson could not capitalize on this opportunity and got out after scoring 6 runs. However, he got lucky again and at the end of this month, he got a place again in Team India which went to New Zealand tour. Team India played 5 T20s on this tour. But Samson became a part of playing XI in only 2 matches and could not play big innings on both the occasions.

Team India’s 11 players were ignored by the selectors, the fans said – Samson will answer by scoring a century

Played 13 T20s in 7 years
Team India went on a tour of Australia at the end of 2020. This time too Samson was in the team and played in all three T20s of the tour. But, under the pressure of questions arising about his place in the team, he got shattered and scored 48 runs in 3 matches. In 2021 also he got a chance to play three T20s on Sri Lanka tour and this year also he played 2 T20s against Sri Lanka. That is, in 7 years, he got a chance to play only 13 T20s for India.

IPL 2022: Franchisees did not retain players, performed well on their own team

Venkatesh got a place even after a poor performance
Now it is inevitable that if a batsman is dropped from the team after a poor performance in a few matches and then gets chances in pieces, then it is meaningless to expect better performance from him. The same is happening with Samson. Seeing his name not in the team for the home series against South Africa, his anger erupted and questions started being asked on Twitter about team selection. Because despite poor performance in IPL 2022, Venkatesh Iyer got a place in the team of T20 series against South Africa. Iyer scored only 182 runs in 12 matches this season.

In such a situation, ignoring the better performing players like Samson and Rahul Tripathi, no one was able to give Venkatesh a chance.
