PV Sindhu eyes Commonwealth Games after becoming Singapore Open champion, PM Modi also congratulated

Singapore. Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu hopes to continue her stellar run in upcoming competitions, including the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, after winning the Singapore Open title. Sindhu registered a 21-9, 11-21, 21-15 win against Wang Xie Yi of China in the final match played on Sunday. Asian Championship gold medalist Wang Xie won a game but Sindhu showed a great game. Many celebrities including Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Sindhu on this victory.

27 years old PV Sindhu “The last few tournaments have had tough competitions and losing in the quarter-finals and the semi-finals was a bit troubling for me. Every match though is important and finally I managed to overcome this hurdle and register a win.

This top Indian shuttler said, ‘I am very happy because after a long time I have come here in Singapore and winning here means a lot to me. I have finally crossed that hurdle, now I have won. I hope the same momentum will continue for the rest of the tournaments and I will do well in the upcoming matches. Meanwhile the Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated him.

PM Modi tweeted, ‘I congratulate PV Sindhu for winning the title of Singapore Open for the first time. He once again showed his amazing sports talent and achieved success. This is a proud moment for the country and will also inspire the upcoming players.

Sindhu, however, doesn’t have much time to celebrate the win as her focus is now on the Commonwealth Games starting on July 28. He said, ‘I have only a week’s time in the meantime and then leave for the Commonwealth Games. Maybe I can take a day out and spend time with my family.

He further said, ‘It has been this long tour for me, after playing in Indonesia and Malaysia within two weeks, came here to Singapore. So I will go back home and take some rest and then start practicing. I will definitely enjoy this win, it means a lot.

This is Sindhu’s third title of the current season and now her full focus is on the Commonwealth Games. In these Games, Sindhu has won silver and bronze in singles besides gold medal in team event. This time she is among the contenders for the gold medal in singles.

He said, ‘We have to participate in the team event first. You have to give 100 percent in it. We have to play as a team and then there is the individual competition. I hope I will give my best, it will not be easy as there will be some good players but we are expecting more and more medals.
