Now MCD can charge 10 times more fine amount if dengue mosquitoes are found in Delhi’s homes

New Delhi. After increasing the license fee for restaurants and banquet halls, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is now going to increase the fine amount by ten times for dengue mosquitoes found in homes. Amidst the increasing cases of dengue in Delhi, the MCD can now collect the fine amount up to Rs 5 thousand. So far, MCD Dengue has been collecting fine in two ways for dengue mosquitoes found in Delhi. The fine amount in households ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 500. At the same time, under vector control, MCD recovers the fine amount from 2000 to one lakh rupees. Fines are also levied for dengue larvae found in construction sites, government offices, market complexes and schools.

Dengue has started spreading rapidly in many parts of the country including Delhi-NCR this year as compared to the last few years. Dengue cases in Delhi this year are the highest in the last six years. Mosquitoes have increased due to waterlogging in many parts of Delhi after the monsoon rains. About 150 new cases of dengue have been reported in the capital since January this year. However, no patient has died of dengue so far.

Amidst the increasing cases of dengue in Delhi, the corporation says that these days a tough stand has been adopted on the construction sites.

Preparation to increase the fine amount for getting dengue
Recently, NDMC had said in the court regarding dengue that it is considering increasing the fine amount from Rs 500 to Rs 50,000. Also said that a proposal to impose fine on the spot is being considered if found guilty.

MCD to take tough stand on construction sites
Amidst the increasing cases of dengue in Delhi, the corporation says that these days a tough stand has been adopted on the construction sites. Recently, the corporation has challaned one lakh rupees on PNSC Construction Company in Karkardooma. Also, Rs 50,000 has been challaned for breeding mosquitoes at the construction site operated by SAM Buildwell for breeding mosquitoes in Karkardooma Institutional Area.

Recently, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had given several instructions in the review meeting regarding the preparedness of the states for prevention and control of diseases like dengue, malaria. Mandaviya held a meeting through video conferencing with health ministers and officials of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tripura, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu. Emphasis was given on starting a public campaign regarding prevention and treatment of diseases.
