New Delhi: India’s Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra had an exclusive conversation with News18 after winning the silver medal in the World Athletics Championships 2022. This star athlete told that he had to face difficulties due to strong winds during the event. Neeraj Chopra said, ‘The circumstances were not favorable. Today the wind was blowing very strong. I was confident that I would do well. The wind caused trouble. I am satisfied with the result. Will try to do better in future. It is a pleasure to be able to get India a medal. Results don’t always come as you expect. The match was very tough.

Neeraj Chopra has won the silver medal for the country in the World Athletics Championships by throwing 88.13m javelin. India has won a medal in the track and field event of the World Athletics Championships after 19 years. Before Neeraj Chopra, Anju Bobby George had won a bronze medal in the long jump event of the 2003 World Athletics Championships by finishing third. On this achievement of Neeraj Chopra, his mother said in a conversation with News18, ‘We already expected that he would win the medal. We are very happy. He hasn’t returned home for a long time. Now if he comes, we will prepare good food to welcome him.

Grenada’s current world champion Anderson Peters won the gold medal of the event. He threw 90.46 meters javelin. During the qualifiers of the World Athletics Championships 2022 javelin throw event, Neeraj Chopra secured a place in the final with a javelin throw of 88.39 meters in his first attempt. In Qualification Group-A, he finished first and overall second. Neeraj Chopra’s debut in the medal event was not expected. He was running in fourth place after his first three attempts. But in the fourth attempt, Neeraj made a great comeback with a throw of 88.13 meters and came second in the medal tally.

In the next two rounds, no other athlete could throw the javelin farther than Neeraj, thus becoming the first Indian male player to win a medal in the track and field event at the World Championships. Earlier, Neeraj ended a 120-year drought for the country by winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year. He became the first player to win a gold medal in the track and field event for India in the Olympic event and now he has made another achievement for himself and the country by winning the silver medal in the World Championship.
