New Delhi: The major events of 10th July in Indian and world history are as follows.
1246 – Nasiruddin Muhammad Shah ascended the throne of Delhi.
1624 – The Anti-Spanish Treaty is signed between Hollande and France.
1848 – The first telegraph link between New York and Chicago begins.
1907 – Agreement signed between France and Japan to preserve the independence and integrity of China.
1946 – Italy becomes a republican nation.
1965 – The first NCC college for women opened in Gwalior.
1966 – Air Force fighter aircraft ‘Migka’ begins construction in Maharashtra’s Nashik district.
1972 – Harshavardhan, a fully air-conditioned vessel, was launched from Margao port in Mumbai.
1983 – Margaret Thatcher again becomes Prime Minister in Britain.
1986 – India beat England by five wickets for first Test victory at Lord’s.
1999 – International Labor Conference opened in Geneva.
2002 – Pakistan renamed the world’s second highest peak K-2 as ‘Chogori’ or ‘Shahgorikar’.
2003 – NASA’s Mangalyaan rover launched.
2005 – Signing of two agreements on education and community development in India and Sri Lanka.
2008 – The Central Government announced an ‘Integrated Space Cell’ for the three services.
2008 – Best Popular Film Award for ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ at the 54th National Film Awards.
2008 – Best of Booker Prize awarded to Indian-origin British author Salman Rushdie.
2013 – 40 people are killed in a landslide in Sichuan province of China.
2015 – In Bangladesh’s Maimansingh district, 23 people are killed in a stampede while collecting clothes that are being distributed for free.
2017 – Amarnath Yatra attacked in which seven pilgrims died.
