New Delhi. Former Test fast bowler Heath Davies has become the first male international cricketer from New Zealand to come out as gay. Such a case is rarely seen in the professional men’s cricket world. Many gay players have already appeared in the women’s cricket world. Many women cricketers have even got married. Natalie Seaver and Katherine Brunt, Amy Satterthwaite and Lee Tahuhu, Lauren-Winfield and Courtney Hill, Lizelle Lee and Tanja Cronje are some of the many female homosexuals, but they are rarely seen in professional men’s cricket.

Heather Davis, 50, is currently living in Australia. Davis played five Tests and 11 One Day Internationals from 1994 to 1997. He also enjoyed a long domestic career as a fast bowler. His career was full of amazing stories. He came out as gay for the first time among the test cricketers of the country. In an interview with online magazine ‘The Spinoff’, Davis said, “I felt there was this part of my life that I was hiding.”

After playing for Wellington for most of his first-class career, Davies eventually realized that he needed a change in the environment to return to his true form. He said, “There was a lot in that, just keeping his personal life separate. He was alone I was suppressing him, I was not leading a gay life.” Davis said that his life improved when he moved out of his native Wellington to play domestic cricket in Auckland in 1997.

Heath said, “I was a little scared to be out in Wellington… I was forced to hide it. I felt there was this part of my life that I needed to express, I was very upset about hiding it. Everyone in the team in Auckland knew I was gay, but it didn’t seem like such a big issue I just felt free.”

Former England wicketkeeper Steven Davis became the first male international cricketer to publicly come out as gay in early 2011.
