Embrace Peace: CM Urges Maoists to Lay Down Arms

CM Revanth Reddy Urges Maoists to Embrace Peace for National Progress

In Hyderabad, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently made a heartfelt appeal to Maoists, urging them to abandon violence and return to the fold of society. He highlighted the importance of joining mainstream life to contribute to the development of the nation and the rebuilding of Telangana. His message was clear: the time to lay down arms and work together for a better future is now.

During his address at the Police Commemoration Day parade held in Goshamahal, CM Revanth Reddy noted that several former Maoists have already chosen to surrender and reintegrate into society. He encouraged those hiding in the shadows to follow this path. “I urge all Maoist leaders and activists to surrender to the police and participate in nation-building,” he stated. He emphasized that it is essential to shed the Naxal ideology to truly contribute to society.

Revanth Reddy’s message extended to the realm of policing, where he supported the concept of “friendly policing.” He stressed that the police should ensure the safety and rights of law-abiding citizens while also allowing lawful protests for expressing grievances. “While protests are an essential part of democracy, they should not inconvenience the public,” he mentioned.

In today’s digital age, he remarked, every action and word from police officers must be well thought out. He paid his respects to police personnel who lost their lives while serving. “The police are a symbol of trust for society,” he said. This year alone, 191 police officers, including six from Telangana, made the ultimate sacrifice in their duty. He paid tribute to the martyrs, including Greyhounds commandos T. Sandeep, V. Sridhar, and N. Pawan Kalyan, among others.

To support the family of constable Pramod Kumar, who was killed recently, the Chief Minister announced a compensation package of Rs 1 crore, along with the continuation of his salary until retirement, a government job for a family member, and a house site covering 300 square yards. Additionally, Pramod Kumar’s family will receive Rs 16 lakh from the Police Security Welfare Fund and Rs 8 lakh from the Police Welfare Fund.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of police personnel and martyrs’ families. He mentioned that land has already been allocated to the relatives of 33 policemen who fell victim to a Maoist attack in Odisha in 2008.

Focusing on Telangana’s advancements in policing, Revanth Reddy highlighted that the state police were ranked first in the India Justice Report 2025 for innovative adoption of technology in law enforcement. “Telangana Police has been exemplary in tackling terrorism, cybercrimes, drugs, and other criminal activities,” he said. Transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct are the cornerstones of effective policing, he emphasized.

The Chief Minister praised the Telangana Police for their efforts against rising crimes, including cyber fraud and human trafficking. He pointed out the establishment of a Cyber Security Bureau, led by a senior officer, which is now a model for inter-state efforts against cybercriminals. Furthermore, he acknowledged the work of the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), which aims to eliminate drug-related issues in the state. His vision remains clear: making Telangana a drug-free state.

In a significant move towards gender inclusivity, Revanth Reddy noted the increasing presence of women in key police roles. Female IPS officers now head various departments, and seven women officers serve as Deputy Commissioners of Police in Hyderabad and its neighboring areas. “Our police work is akin to walking on the edge of a sword; every day presents a new challenge,” he remarked.

In the last two years, the government has successfully recruited over 16,000 constables and sub-inspectors and has actively removed political interference in appointments. The ex gratia amount for senior officers has also seen an increase up to Rs 2 crore. Furthermore, the government has set up the Young India Police School in Rangareddy district, providing quality education for the children of police personnel and civilians.

As Telangana forges ahead, CM Revanth Reddy’s open call for peace and participation in national progress resonates with a vision of unity and collective effort. It’s an opportunity for all, including the Maoists, to be part of a brighter future, moving beyond conflict.
