Former Bowling Coach Unveils Team India’s Vital Strengths

Former Bowling Coach Evaluates Team India’s Challenges Ahead of Asia Cup

As the Asia Cup approaches, cricket enthusiasts are keenly watching Team India’s preparations. Bharat Arun, who previously served as India’s bowling coach, has shed light on some crucial concerns that the team needs to address to secure success in the tournament.

One of the players under the spotlight is Arshdeep Singh. Arun emphasized that while Arshdeep has put in significant practice in England, he still lacks sufficient competitive game time. Despite participating in a Duleep Trophy match recently, Arun noted that “match rhythm” is vital. The former coach explained, “We all know what Arshdeep can do on the field. But he needs match practice because the true rhythm of bowling comes from playing in matches, not just from practice sessions.” He recognized that Arshdeep faces a considerable challenge as he works to regain his rhythm, which could take just a few matches or a bit longer.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah’s potential to play every match in the tournament is crucial for India. Arun displayed his confidence in Bumrah’s capacity to handle the demands of six T20 matches over three weeks. “I’d love to see Jasprit play. Ultimately, it’s his decision. But considering the nature of the tournament, I don’t think he needs rest,” said Arun. He believes that maintaining momentum throughout the competition will be beneficial for Bumrah.

Arun also offered insights on Harshit Rana, a pacer he has coached at the Kolkata Knight Riders. Describing Rana as a talented bowler, he acknowledged that while Rana possesses the skills to perform well, consistency remains his biggest challenge. Arun commented, “Harshit has shown great promise in T20 cricket. He has impressive slower balls and can bowl effective yorkers. What he needs now is to consistently execute his skills.”

Kuldeep Yadav’s role in the Asia Cup is also significant. Arun expressed his belief that Kuldeep, having grown as a bowler, is poised to make an impact. “It’s unfortunate he couldn’t play during the Test series in England, but his experience in T20 cricket is invaluable,” Arun stated. He noted that the recent Duleep Trophy stint would have helped Kuldeep regain his rhythm, and he expects him to excel due to the favorable conditions in Dubai.

India also boasts a trio of spin specialists: Kuldeep, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy. Arun pointed out that choosing just two of them could be a tough decision. He mentioned, “Varun is an exceptional T20 bowler, Kuldeep adds match-winning capabilities, and Axar brings strength with the bat.” The choice of whether to play all three will depend on pitch conditions, as each bowler brings a unique skill set to the table.

Leadership dynamics within the team are essential as well. Arun spoke positively about captain Suryakumar Yadav and his deputy, Shubman Gill. “Understanding the captain’s style is important, and Suryakumar’s experience as a player will help him lead. I haven’t seen him captain yet, but he has the potential to earn respect from his teammates,” Arun shared. He believes that having a supportive relationship with Gill, who knows his responsibilities well, will help in their collective journey as leaders.

As Team India’s Asia Cup campaign unfolds, all eyes will be on the players’ ability to address these key challenges. With the spotlight on Arshdeep, Bumrah, Kuldeep, and others, fans are hopeful for a strong performance. The cricketing world is excited to see how each player rises to the occasion, helping India pursue victory in this prestigious tournament.
