Ceolwulf’s recent triumph boosted his career earnings to a staggering $9 million. That’s no small feat! Pride expressed his joy about this win and the accolades of his other talented horse, Private Eye, who also shone bright by securing his 14th victory at the Moonga Stakes in Caulfield. “These two horses have brought so much joy to my life,” Pride said. “And I truly believe that there are many more wins yet to come.”

As Pride looks ahead, he’s setting his sights on future races at Flemington for Ceolwulf. He dreams of expanding his stables and increasing his training capacity. “I worked 54 horses today,” he mentioned with pride. “I have ambitions to grow my operation. While I can’t accommodate more horses just yet, I’m confident that when the opportunity arises, we’ll continue to thrive.”

Pride has a hands-on approach to training. He prefers to keep his horses close and personally oversee their training routines. “I believe in being right there with my horses,” he said. “It’s important to me that they are under my watchful eye.”

A Winning Streak for Queensland’s Heathcote

Rob Heathcote is another trainer experiencing the sweet taste of victory. He has been on an exceptional winning streak, particularly thanks to his star horse, Rothfire. During the recent $2 million Group 3 Sydney Stakes, Rothfire overcame significant challenges and delivered an impressive performance, adding yet another feather to Heathcote’s cap.

Heathcote fondly recalls his memories with Rothfire, including the journey they’ve had to get to this point. “There are two bone chips from Rothfire’s legs sitting on my desk, reminding me how lucky we are to still have him running,” he shared. “This win feels almost as big as my previous wins with Buffering, which was a household name a decade ago.”

Rothfire’s comeback is nothing short of miraculous. After undergoing surgery to remove bone chips, he has managed to reclaim his best form. This victory comes during an impressive spring for Queensland, with the Brisbane Broncos and Lions also securing victories in their respective sports.

A Mixed Day for Cronin’s Gerringong

Meanwhile, in a different corner of the racing world, former Parramatta Eels legend Mick Cronin had a bittersweet experience. He recently had the opportunity to co-own a horse named Gerringong, named after his hometown. Unfortunately, Gerringong finished ninth in the Silver Eagle race behind Linebacker, the race favorite.

While it’s disappointing not to have secured a win, Cronin enjoys the thrill of ownership and the excitement of the races. “I’ve always been someone who loves the rush of betting. It’s a fun game.”

Clear Thinking: A Queen’s Legacy

The racing community also celebrated the success of Clear Thinking, who won The Kosciusko under Tyler Schiller. This victory is particularly special as Paul Messara appreciates the role the late Queen Elizabeth played in bringing Clear Thinking to his stable. After purchasing the mare following the Queen’s passing in 2022, Messara discovered her potential they hadn’t initially anticipated.

“She was meant to be a broodmare, but we quickly realized her racing abilities,” Messara said with a smile. Clear Thinking has shown promise, winning five out of seven starts, and there are hopes for her to compete at higher levels in the future.

The Vibrant Atmosphere at the Races

While the day’s events unfolded, there was an exciting buzz at the racecourse. Young racegoers, filled with enthusiasm, caught the attention of officials who attempted to film impromptu interviews. However, some language and dress choices led to concerns about what could be shown on air.
