Menopause: Women have vaginal problems, how to prevent

1 of 1

Menopause is inevitable in every woman’s life and it can cause hot flashes, sleep problems, mood swings and many more problems for some women. From your first period to your last period i.e. menopause, your vaginal health goes through many ups and downs. In fact, during menopause, problems related to the vagina like vaginal dryness, problems in sexual relations, problems of urinary leakage etc. increase.
Today we are going to tell our female readers through this article about some such problems which are caused due to dryness in the vagina.

pain during sexual intercourse
The lack of estrogen causes the mucus under the vagina to become dry. After that it also becomes thinner. Thinning is because it shrinks the elastic tissue. Bleeding and pain occurs during sexual relations due to thin vagina. Sometimes the dryness and thinning of the skin is so much that cuts start happening.

urinary leakage problem
Estrogen maintains the health of the elastic tissue of the body. But when estrogen starts decreasing, the elasticity and mass of the elastic tissue starts decreasing. Just as wrinkles and lines start to appear when aging starts, so does your pelvic floor. When this happens on the pelvic floor, then two types of problems start happening.
First, when this happens with the bladder, there can be a problem of urinary leakage. This is due to stress incontinence and earned incontinence. Many women may face this problem in the perimenopausal stage. This problem can range from mild to severe.

vaginal dryness
Estrogen hormone is very important for vaginal and reproductive health. When it starts decreasing then many problems start happening. Vaginal dryness occurs after menopause due to a decrease in estrogen and mucus, and due to this the secretions become slightly thicker or stop altogether. Due to dryness, there is itching in this part and during sex also there is pain due to dryness.

problem of prolapse
Due to lack of elasticity, this part starts hanging and a drop down is felt at the bottom. You may have heard that many women say that it feels like the uterus has come down. This is because there is no support at all due to less elastic tissue.

A decrease in the elasticity of the estrogen that strengthens your vaginal tissue leads to a loss of strength. This leads to prolapse. Prolapse occurs when the pelvic muscles and tissues cannot support these organs because the muscles and tissues are weak or damaged. This causes one or more pelvic organs to prolapse or become pressed into or out of the vagina. Pelvic organ prolapse is a type of pelvic floor disorder.

vaginal infection

Normally, there are some good bacteria in the vagina that help to keep it clean and protect it from infection. But when the estrogen and mucus subsides and the dryness begins. Due to this, there is an imbalance of the pH of the vagina. Due to this, the risk of infection increases and infections like candidiasis and thrush occur more frequently.

Apart from this, bacterial vaginosis i.e. infections caused due to excess of other types of bacteria also start happening.

bladder infection
It also increases the risk of bladder infection. This is because due to the imbalance of dryness and pH, infection of the vagina easily reaches the bladder.

change in smell

Changes in the bacteria underneath, dryness and less mucus can sometimes cause a change in the smell of the vagina. Sometimes the smell is very dirty.

preventive measures
1. First of all you have to take care of your pelvic floor. Failure to do so increases the problems with increasing age.

2. Due to the lack of estrogen hormone, you cannot take much hormone from outside, but women who have a lot of problems, the doctor advises to take short term hormone therapy. This is known as HRT. There is no harm in taking short term HRT but it should always be taken only after consulting a doctor.

3. If you do not want to take this type of therapy, then you can include some things in the food like, soybean, vitamin-e etc.

4. When there is prolapse and urinary incontinence, most of the women feel that there is no other option except operation for this. But this is not correct because nowadays many no operation devices have come which can help the patient. Typically, lasers improve elasticity. Once the elasticity is improved, the quality of the mucus after the laser is also improved and the risk of infection starts working. If the problem recurs again and again, then definitely see a good doctor.
