Devshayani Ekadashi fasting story-
The story of Devshayani Ekadashi fasting has been narrated by Lord Krishna himself. According to the scriptures, Lord Krishna narrated this story to Dharmaraja Yudhishthira. According to mythology, a Chakravarti king named Mandhata ruled in Satyuga. The people were happy in the kingdom of Mandhata. Once there was a severe famine in his kingdom due to lack of rain for three years. There was an atmosphere of tragedy all around due to the famine. Because of this, Yagya, Havan, Pind Daan, Katha-Vrat etc. started decreasing. The subjects went to their king and told about their pain.
Today this special coincidence of worship of Bajrangbali is being made on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi.
The king was worried about this famine. He used to think that what was the sin he had committed, for which punishment was being given in such a harsh form. With the aim of getting rid of this crisis, the king went towards the forest with the army. While wandering in the forest, one day he reached the ashram of sage Angira, son of Brahma. The sage asked the king’s well being and the reason for coming to the forest.

The king folded his hands and said that I follow religion with full devotion, yet why is the state in such a condition? Please solve this. After listening to the king, Maharishi Angira said that this is the golden age. In this age, even a small sin receives a severe punishment. Maharishi Angira asked King Mandhata to observe a fast on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month. Maharishi said that due to the effect of this fast there will definitely be rain.
Following the instructions of Maharishi Angira, the king returned to the capital of his kingdom. He observed Padma Ekadashi with all the four varnas methodically, after which there was torrential rain in the state. The special significance of Devshayani Ekadashi has been described in the Brahma Vaivarta Purana. It is believed that the fast of Devshayani Ekadashi fulfills all the wishes of the devotee.
