A Journey Begins with a Spark of Curiosity

Advika’s skating journey began at the tender age of eight. It all started when her father decided to take her to Decathlon. While exploring the store, she stumbled upon a small skating arena and felt an irresistible urge to give it a try. Her father encouraged her, and soon she was gliding around the rink, mesmerized by the skill and grace of others. This initial spark ignited her passion for skating, leading her to join the Yama Skating Academy, where she honed her skills and transitioned into artistic skating.

While Advika tried inline skating at the age of three, she found her true calling in artistic skating, which involves more complex movements like jumps and spins. She explains the difference between the two, saying, “In inline skating, you mainly go around cones without doing much else, while artistic skating combines spins, jumps, and creative choreography.”

Advika enjoys the intricacies of skating and has a special fondness for learning new steps and routines, which she often practices with enthusiasm.

Striking a Balance: Skating, Studies, and More

Balancing skating and academics is a tough task for Advika. She manages her time meticulously, dedicating late evenings to her studies after rigorous practice sessions. Her routine typically starts with a warm-up, followed by extensive jumping and spinning exercises, which she performs dozens of times to perfect her technique. Despite her busy schedule, Advika finds joy in learning, particularly in science, and wishes to explore the human body further.

“Every day is a challenge,” she says. “But I study consistently. I make the most out of my time, and I never waste it.”

Healthy Eating and Maintaining Fitness

Being an athlete demands a disciplined approach to diet and fitness, and Advika embraces this challenge. Her favorite treats include ice cream and soft tea, but she limits her intake of junk food. Instead, she opts for healthier choices, often skipping fast food in favor of home-cooked meals.

She understands that a balanced diet is crucial for her performance and believes that every small choice matters when it comes to achieving her goals.

Beyond Skating: Advika’s Other Interests

When she’s not skating, Advika loves to draw, paint, and write stories. She also enjoys giving speeches at school and has an interest in other sports like badminton and swimming. Her enthusiasm for various interests adds dimensions to her personality beyond skating.

Inspiration comes from her coach, Anup Kumar Ayyama, an Arjuna Awardee. He not only provides her with technical guidance but also valuable life lessons. “He makes everything easy to understand and supports me in every aspect,” says Advika fondly.

Advika believes that India is doing remarkably well in the skating arena. With champions emerging in various categories, she feels proud to be a part of this growth. Her ambition is crystal clear: she aims to represent India at the Asian Championship and dream of becoming an Asian medallist one day. She also harbors aspirations of becoming a doctor, blending her love for science with her passion for skating.

As she looks toward the future, Advika shares some heartfelt advice for aspiring skaters: “Stay dedicated and never give up on your goals!”
