Bael is one of the oldest fruits
Bael is one of the oldest fruits of India. For this reason, it is described a lot in ancient religious and Ayurvedic texts. Apart from this, its trees grow in abundance in countries like Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand etc. When Buddhist scholar Xuanzang arrived in India from China in AD 633, when he returned to China, he took and translated many books on Sanskrit, Buddhist philosophy and Indian thought. For this he also thanked the then powerful king Harsha. He has also described Bael as an Indian fruit. He has translated about 657 books.

Bel fruit has religious significance
First of all, if we talk about the religious and spiritual characteristics of Bael fruit, then the characteristics of fruits, trees and leaves have been described in other scriptures including Shiv Purana. For the worship of Lord Shiva, his blessings and attainment of worldly happiness, Bel fruit and Belpatra are said to be best. In religious texts, the Bel tree is said to be the form of Lord Shiva. Bel tree is also a symbol of prosperity. It is also believed that Goddess Lakshmi resides in its tree. Another feature of the vine is that the old yellowed fruits attached to the tree turn green again after a year. The specialty of leaves is that if you keep them plucked, they remain as they are for six months.

The tannin and pectin elements present in the bael are extremely beneficial mainly in the treatment of diarrhea and dysentery. Apart from this, vitamin C, calcium, fiber, protein and iron are also found in high quantity in the fruit of Bael. Bael marmalade also increases the body’s immunity and provides coolness to the body. It is advisable to eat bael murabba in case of jaundice. According to Simmi, excessive consumption of bael can cause harm. Overeating leads to abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence and constipation.
