3 Cheers for Peace: Lando Norris Backs Oscar Piastri at British GP

Lando Norris Advocates for Respect as Rival Oscar Piastri Prepares for British GP

This weekend at Silverstone, the excitement is palpable as Lando Norris encourages fans to offer a warm welcome to his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri. As they enter a thrilling showdown for the Drivers’ Championship, the dynamic duo is only 15 points apart, escalating the stakes at the British Grand Prix.

Norris recently claimed victory at the Austrian Grand Prix, marking the first time he will race at Silverstone with his own grandstand, affectionately dubbed the ‘Landostand,’ complete with 10,000 enthusiastic fans.

During a joint press conference following their successful one-two finish in Austria, Norris expressed his hope for a positive reception for Piastri: “I certainly hope that part’s not going to happen. The British fans are known for being welcoming, especially to McLaren drivers. It’s essential for everyone to cheer for one another and celebrate the sport,” he said.

Piastri echoed these sentiments, reflecting on the support he’s received in the past from Silverstone fans. “A couple of years ago, they were chanting my name, which was unexpected. Overall, the fans have been quite gracious, and while I know Lando will have more supporters this weekend, I believe it’ll be a fair atmosphere,” he stated.

Officials at Silverstone share this optimistic outlook. Stuart Pringle, the managing director, said, “I’m absolutely certain that everyone loves great racing here at Silverstone. Our knowledgeable fans are passionate about the sport and appreciate the exciting battles we witness.” With 75 years of racing history, Silverstone has proven time and again to be a venue for thrilling races.

‘A Place I Want to Win More Than Anywhere Else’

Norris, who has finished second and third in the last two British Grands Prix, is eager to finally clinch a home victory. Reflecting on last year’s missed opportunity due to strategy errors, he stated, “I’m excited. This is the best race of the year for me. With my own grandstand, there’s a special motivation to perform. The pressure remains the same, but it brings a smile to my face every morning.” His excitement for the upcoming race is evident, as he sees the grandstand as a positive distraction rather than a burden.
