Loi Krathong Festival Celebration in New Delhi 

It was a splendid evening in an Hotel in the capital city of India on Wednesday evening as several floating candles lit up their water bodies and the lawns. Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi organized the famous Thai festival of Loi Krathong ( known as Festival of Lights ) in New Delhi on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Raddisson Blu Hotel, New Delhi.

 

 

The evening was inaugurated by a beautiful cultural performance put together by a team of dancers and musicians flown in from Chiang Mai , Northern region of Thailand. There was also a special Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) performance. The performances ended with a decorated long drum procession where Miss Loi Krathong was carried on a palanquin to the pool site where she invited the guests to release the candle lit krathongs.

Mr. Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum , Minister from Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi congratulated Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi for organizing such an event. He said,” It gives us great joy to celebrate the Loi Krathong festival in this city and give the people to Discover Thainess such as Thai culture performances , Thai food with all its simplicity and panache. We would also like to thank our partner Raddison Blu Hotel for their support in making this a successful event.”

Over two hundred guests including well known personalities, HNI ,travel and tourism industry and media, were invited to celebrate the delightful event where candle lit krathongs twinkled on the water creating beautiful and unforgettable experiences.

 

Throughout the night, guests were entertained with Thai culture and performers as well as experienced the art of making the krathongs and floating them in the water. The guests were also treated to authentic Thai cuisine by Neung Roi restaurant

Loi Krathong is one of the most picturesque and most romantic festivals of Thailand, falling on the night of full moon of the 12 TH lunar (usually in November). People gather around lakes, rivers and canals to pay respects to the goddess of water by launching of the Krathong “container shaped like lotus blossom made of banana leaves containing a candle, incense sticks, flower and coins” into the water. Couples come together to float their Krathong and make a wish. It is believed that Krathong that float on the water carry happiness and prosperity, as well as taking away misery. This year the actual date of full moon night of the 12 th lunar is 25 th November 2015, Thais through out the country celebrate Loi Krathong on 24 th -25 th November 2015
